General Information
Emerica is a skateboarding shoe manufacturer which is based in California, USA and owned by Sole Technology. Not unlike other shoe manufacturers (e.g. Nike SB), Emerica's revenues are generated both through its final product and sponsored professional team members. In terms of corporate merchandising, this means that while some shoes are marketed on the basis of physical characteristics alone (product name, colour, style, etc.) others are marketed more so on the team riders name and projected image. Accordingly, Emerica sells both standardized company logo shoes and slightly more specialized professional model shoes.
Although it was argued that Emerica is composed of mainly unoriginal railkillers, this common misconception was quickly pushed away after the realease of This Is Skateboarding. The video not only featured handrail skating, but also transition, ledge, and manual pad skating.
As of 2005, Emerica provides sponsorship not only for veteran riders such as Andrew Reynolds, Ed Templeton and Chris Senn, but also for rookie riders such as Kevin Long and Bryan Herman.
