General Information

Jeremy Scott, the designer known for pushing buttons on the runway, is now pimping high-tops. A fashion bad boy who never shies away from theatrical flair and wacky details (previous collections have referenced Miss Piggy and French fries, and his Fall 2006 collection was a parade of walking munchies) has teamed up with adidas on their revival series of adicolor sneakers. First launched back in 1983, adicolor footwear came with waterproof markers you could use to customize the shoes. Expanding on the original concept, adidas added a collaborative component to the series. As someone familiar with mixing pop culture and ready-to-wear, Scott looked no further than a very obvious choice: Keith Haring, the pop-art hero of the boom-box generation. "Haring was all about high-tops," says Scott. "He even did the backdrop for Run-D.M.C. for one of their tours." (And we all know how Run-D.M.C. felt about their adidas.) "I went through the entire Keith Haring archive and found this print that he designed for textiles but never used," Scott explains. Black on white, noodle-y and whimsical in that unmistakable Haring fashion, these limited-edition kicks are sure to make the sneaker freaks run before the eBay bidding starts. Finally, two '80s cultural icons -- adidas and Haring -- have been reunited. And it feels so good. Keith Haring© & Jeremy Scott shoe, $150, is available at Barneys nationwide.
