576

The 576 was first produced, under a different name, in the 1980s and marketed towards the United States' East coast fashion market. Although sales were high in New York, overall sales were not as expected, leaving the US New Balance factory with excess fabric due to lack of production.

A German sales rep, during a visit to the US New Balance headquarters, came across the excess fabric and shipped it to Germany. The German factory then produced an athletic walking shoe named the 576. Sales soared for the first few years, but subsequentially declined, and the 576 was removed from the New Balance product line.

In 1997, the 576 was once again put into production. This time, the shoe was made with high quality pigskin suede in vibrant colors such as "Salad Bowl Green", "Moulin Rouge", and "Scarlet Feather", in addition to black, navy, and grey colorways. The reaction within the fashion industry was huge, and the following year the 576 was produced using full grain leather and nubuck materials.

Sizing

UK made 576s tend to run a half size large. If ordering a pair before trying them on, a general rule of thumb is to order a half size down from your normal US size. (ie, size US9's should order a US8.5 or a UK8)
